Just 10km from Granada, the Mombacho Volcano is one of the most famous Volcanos in Nicaragua. Shrouded in a mystical cloud, Mombacho stands tall at an elevation of 1,344m above sea level. The drive uphill to the top of the volcano is an adventure in itself, including an exciting twisty road, as well as views of coffee plantations and local farms.
The Mombacho volcano has four craters, all of which are covered with cloud forest. This type of forest is only found on one other spot in the Pacific, and that is on the Maderas Volcano in Ometepe. The Volcano is teeming with wildlife including white-face monkeys and Nicaragua's national bird - the Guardabarranco.
We can choose from a variety of trails, from beginner to difficult. This trip goes well in combination with a visit to the Mombacho canopy zip lines.
